Seal Island Tour
Featured Experience

Cape fur seals at Duiker Island

Seal Island Tour

A shorter trip ideal for families and first-timers: we cruise to Duiker Island off Hout Bay, home to a large resident colony of Cape fur seals. You will see them hauled out on the rocks and porpoising around the boat, with the Sentinel and Chapman's Peak as backdrop. The crew shares context on the colony and the coast along the way. A great intro to the Atlantic side in a compact outing.

Coastline Explorer

V&A to Cape Point — the full peninsula

Coastline Explorer

The big one. From the V&A Waterfront we run the length of the peninsula — past Clifton and Camps Bay, around to Hout Bay and the seal colony at Duiker Island, then down toward Simon's Town, Boulders and the cliffs of Cape Point. It is a full, varied day of scenery and wildlife with a gourmet lunch on board and commentary on the history and marine life of the coast. In whale season (June–November) we route around the latest sightings.

Full day (7 hours)
  • Full peninsula from V&A to Cape Point
  • Seal colony at Duiker Island
  • Boulders penguin vantage

Whale Watching

Southern Right and Humpback whales in season

Whale Watching

Between roughly June and November, Southern Right whales arrive to calve in the sheltered bays of the Cape Peninsula, and Humpbacks pass through on their migration. We run respectful, distance-aware approaches in line with responsible viewing guidelines, with the crew sharing what we are seeing along the way. Sightings are never guaranteed — they are wild animals — but we plan the route around the latest reported activity to give you the best chance.

4 hours
  • Southern Right & Humpback whales in season
  • Responsible, distance-aware approaches
  • Boulders penguins and seals often on the route

Custom & Bespoke Charters

If it's not listed, ask — we build the trip to your brief

Custom & Bespoke Charters

Have something in mind that isn't on the menu? Tell us what you need and the crew will build it. Custom and bespoke charters cover the requests that don't fit a standard product — a proposal or celebration on the water, a stable platform for film and photography crews, ash scatterings and memorial trips handled with care, specialised or targeted fishing, marine-research support, and marine logistics. Everything is planned around your brief, the conditions on the day, and the relevant permits. Share the details and we will scope it, quote it, and confirm what is possible.

Tailored to you (from ~6 hours)
  • Built around your brief, not a fixed itinerary
  • Stable platform for film, photography and research

Mobile Refreshments & Beach Base

Shore-side hospitality support for jetski tours and beach events

Mobile Refreshments & Beach Base

This is a shore-side hospitality service, not a boat charter. We set up a mobile refreshments and base station on the beach or at a coastal event site — providing drinks and light refreshments, a shaded dry area for changing and drying off, seating to rest between sessions, and a tidy handover with waste removed at the end. It is designed to partner with jetski tour operators and beach, cliff or coastal events: we look after your guests on land while the watercraft activity is run by the partner operator. The setup is mobile and configured to your event, group size and location. Quote on request.

Per event / from 4 hours
  • Shore-side hospitality, not a boat charter
  • Sheltered dry changing and rest base

Shipwreck Coastline Tour

The 'Cape of Storms' — a boat-based heritage tour of the wreck coast

Shipwreck Coastline Tour

The sea off the Cape Peninsula earned its old name — the Cape of Storms — for good reason. On this coastal heritage run we trace the shoreline where well-documented vessels came to grief, including the wreck of the SS Maori (lost near Hout Bay in 1909) and the cluster of wrecks along the Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope coast, among them the Thomas T Tucker and the Nolloth. We approach by boat for a viewing-and-commentary angle you cannot get from the road, with the crew sharing the history of each site. This is a weather-dependent tour: winter swells make the coastline dramatic, but conditions decide whether we can run and how close we can safely get. Where the route enters the marine protected area near Cape Point, the relevant conditions and any required permits apply.

Half day (~4 hours)
  • Boat-based view of the Cape of Storms coastline
  • Wreck of the SS Maori area off Hout Bay
  • Cape Point / Cape of Good Hope wreck cluster

Choose your charter

Step 2

Step 3

Get out on the water

We run the route, keep you safe, and leave the Cape coast to do the rest.

Meet Hey Charlie

Born on the Water. Built for Adventure.

Hey Charlie Charters was born from a lifelong relationship with the ocean and more than 15 years spent navigating the waters surrounding the Cape.

What began as a personal passion became something bigger: an opportunity to share the freedom, beauty and raw energy of the ocean with others. Cape Town has one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world, but the experience changes completely when you leave the road behind, move beyond the harbour wall and see it from the water.

From the deck, familiar landmarks take on an entirely different scale. Mountains rise directly from the sea. Cliffs, caves and sheltered coves reveal themselves along the coastline. Dolphins may suddenly appear beside the boat, seals surface between the swells and, at the right time of year, whales move through these waters. As the city falls away behind you, the noise disappears and the ocean takes over.

That feeling is the reason Hey Charlie exists.

More Than a Charter

We never wanted Hey Charlie to become another predictable, mass-produced boat trip. The best days at sea are personal. They are shaped by the weather, the people on board and the reason for being there.

For some guests, it is the excitement of heading offshore before sunrise in search of fish. For others, it is a relaxed cruise along the coastline, a family day on the water, a birthday, an anniversary or a private celebration with friends. Sometimes the entire purpose is simply to stop, open a drink, watch the sun sink into the Atlantic and experience Cape Town from somewhere completely different.

Every charter has its own character, but the intention remains the same: to give our guests a genuine day on the ocean rather than rush them through a standard itinerary.

We take the time to understand what you want from the experience. Where conditions and safety allow, the day is shaped around you. There is no forced performance and no unnecessary formality — just capable people, a well-prepared boat and the freedom to enjoy the water at your own pace.

Experience You Can Trust

The ocean is beautiful, but it demands respect.

More than 15 years on the Cape coast has created a deep understanding of these waters: how quickly conditions can change, how wind and swell affect a route, where shelter can be found and when the safest decision is to alter a plan. That knowledge cannot be replaced by an app, a forecast or enthusiasm alone. It is built through time, judgement and real experience at sea.

Safety is therefore not an afterthought or a marketing line. It influences every charter — from planning the route and monitoring conditions to preparing the vessel and looking after every person on board.

Hey Charlie operates with an experienced, SAMSA-certified skipper, appropriate insurance and a strong commitment to responsible boating. We would rather adjust a trip than compromise the safety or comfort of our guests. The ocean always has the final word, and respecting that is part of delivering a professional charter.

Cape Town, Seen Properly

Cape Town is famous for its scenery, but some of its most memorable moments happen beyond the shoreline.

A day aboard Hey Charlie may bring glassy water and endless views, or a fresh Cape breeze and the thrill of moving through open sea. It may bring marine wildlife, productive fishing grounds, hidden stretches of coastline or a sunset that turns the entire horizon gold.

These moments cannot be manufactured or guaranteed. That is precisely what makes them special.

The ocean decides what each day will become. Our job is to read the conditions, navigate responsibly and create the space for something unforgettable to happen.

Come Aboard

Hey Charlie is for people who want more than another item checked off an itinerary.

It is for families wanting uninterrupted time together. Friends looking for a proper day out. Visitors wanting to experience the real Cape coastline. Anglers chasing the next great story. Couples marking an important moment. And anyone who understands that sometimes the best way to reconnect is to leave the land behind.

You do not need boating experience, specialist knowledge or a particular reason to come aboard. Bring your people, your sense of adventure and your willingness to experience the Cape from a different perspective.

We will take care of the rest.

This is more than a charter. It is the freedom of open water, the power of the Cape coastline and the kind of day you will still be talking about years from now.

This is Hey Charlie.
